30 Days of Data: the free Notion template to build your data portfolio
A free Notion template that turns 'I should learn data' into one focused session a day for 30 days: a daily tracker, a library of 40 real projects across 4 career paths, and a portfolio published by day 29. Here's what's inside and how to use it.

Most people do not fail to learn data because it is too hard. They fail because "learn data" is not a plan. It has no first step, no daily unit of progress, and no finish line. The 30 Days of Data template fixes exactly that: one Notion page, one focused session a day, and a published portfolio at the end.
A certificate says you watched a course. A portfolio says you can do the work. Recruiters can tell the difference. This template is built around that idea: every one of the 30 days moves you toward projects you can actually show.
What's inside the template
The 30-Day Tracker
31 rows, one per day, each with a concrete focus: "load the data, first exploration", "quality pass, clean README", "publish portfolio v1". You check the box, you log one small win, you move on. Minimum 30 minutes a day.
The Project Library
All 40 projects across the 4 data career paths, with difficulty, effort in challenge days, and two ways to do each one: guided on D8A Academy, or solo with a free Kaggle dataset or public API.
Day 0, Weekly Roadmap, Finish Line
A 10-minute setup page (pick your path, pick your mode), a week-by-week map so you always know where you are, and a final checklist for publishing and sharing your portfolio.
Three modes
Portfolio Sprint (3 shipped projects + a published portfolio), Foundations (slower pace, solid basics), or Freestyle (your own datasets, same accountability structure).
How the 30 days are structured
The arc is simple, and it is the same whatever your level:
Week 1: Foundations
A free intro course for your path, then you pick Project 1 and get the data loaded. Small wins early.
Weeks 2-3: Ship two projects
Finish, submit, and write the story of each project: the problem, your approach, the result. Portfolio v1 goes live on day 19.
Week 4: Third project and polish
One more project, then the recruiter test: can a stranger understand what you can do in 60 seconds? Publish and share on day 29.
One important piece of honesty: the full library for each path adds up to far more than 30 days of work, and that is by design. The challenge covers your foundations plus your first three projects. Everything after that is your roadmap for month two and beyond.
Pick your path on day 0
The template covers the four main data careers. If you already know yours, filter the Project Library once and you are set. If you do not, the 2-minute quiz matches your background and goals to a path. We also wrote a 30-day plan for each one:
- Become a data analyst in 30 days: a realistic plan
- The 30-day business analyst challenge
- 30 days of machine learning, project by project
- Data engineer in 30 days: what you can actually build
Guided or solo: both are real options
Every project row in the library gives you a choice. Option A is the guided version on D8A Academy: dataset provided, step-by-step brief, automatic GitHub validation, and a portfolio page that builds itself as you complete projects. The intro course of every path is free. Option B is the solo version: a well-known free dataset (Kaggle's Olist, Titanic, Store Sales, a public API) and you define the scope yourself.
Both get you to a portfolio. Option A removes the friction that kills most solo attempts: deciding what "done" means. Option B costs nothing and proves you can scope work on your own. Pick per project; plenty of people mix the two.
Why a 30-day challenge instead of a course
Courses optimize for completion certificates. Challenges optimize for output. After 30 days with this template you will not have a certificate: you will have public repos, project write-ups, and a portfolio link that goes at the top of your CV. If you have ever finished a course and still felt unable to start a real project, that difference is the whole point.
Duplicate the template, block 30 minutes in your calendar, and start with day 0 tonight. Share your progress with #30DaysOfData.
